Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk: RunLawrence will hold its 10 annual Thanksgiving Day 5K on Nov. 28. The event will start at 8:30 a.m. at Woodlawn School. Sign up to run or walk. First 1,000 get a pair of Asics runner’s mittens (or beanies for youth). Family discounts for three or more entries by Nov. 22. Free one-mile kids run after the 5K. Basketball officials needed: Lawrence Parks & Recreation is taking applications for individual interested in officiating youth basketball. Openings are available in Recreational Leagues (Saturday games) and in the more competitive Hoopster Leagues (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). RunWalk Lawrence: A new training program called RunWalkLawrence is starting in Lawrence. It is a Jeff Galloway program. Galloway represented the U.S. at the 1972 Munich Olympics and has since helped over a quarter of a million people experience the joys and benefits of running. Galloway has programs in many major cities around the country; this is the first time his program has been offered in Kansas. Questions can be directed to J. Jenkins at (785)-865-6112.

10U softball: The River City All Stars 10U softball team is looking for players with 2003 birthdays (2004 considered) to play in the spring/summer of 2014 with optional 2013 fall and winter practices. Kickball qualifier: The Lawrence-based KVLFK kickball team has qualified for the kickball national championship, the Circuit Cup Championship on Nov. 9 in New Orleans. The team qualified at the Kansas City Kickball Open in June and is made of some of the top players in the Kaw Valley Kickball League. LPRD girls basketball: Lawrence Parks & Recreation and the Lawrence USD 497 are combining the sixth- and seventh-grade girls intramural basketball program and are taking additional registration thru Nov. 8. Practices continue throughout the week, with games starting on Nov. 9. Cost is $55. Games will be played at the middle schools. Registrations forms are available at all middle school offices along with all recreation centers in Lawrence. Turkey Trot: Lawrence Parks & Recreation is taking registration for the Turkey Trot 5K Run for Saturday, Nov. 2, at Haskell Indian Nations University. Cost is $20 for early registration. $25 the day of the race. The route will include parts of the Haskell campus as well as the Lawrence parks. Early packet pickup will be at Jock’s Nitch Sporting Goods 1116 W. 23rd on Friday, Nov. 1, from 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m.
