Railway removal to cause road closure along 11th Street and Haskell Avenue until Friday

Railroad track removal will continue to affect Lawrence motorists at least until Friday, city officials said.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, 11th Street will be closed near Haskell Avenue until 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The removal continues a project that began Sunday and has continued this week in downtown Lawrence between Kentucky and Massachusetts Streets.

The final phase of the project will occur in the alley in the 600 block of Vermont and Massachusetts streets, but the city doesn’t expect there to be any road closures at that time. Instead, members of the Public Works Department will coordinate alley closures with surrounding businesses.

The project is expected to be completed by Nov. 8.
