Free State QB expected to play

Free State High football senior quarterback and free safety Joe Dineen has practiced and is expected to start on Friday against Lawrence.

Dineen, who had his ribs X-rayed on Saturday, had to leave the Firebirds’ 25-23 victory over Leavenworth early in the second quarter last week.

The Pioneers rallied from an eight-point deficit at the time of Dineen’s injury to take a five-point lead in the third quarter before Firebirds backup quarterback Bryce Torneden’s touchdown pass to Zach Bickling gave FSHS the lead for good.
