Letter: Somalia field trip?

To the editor:

In an article in the Oct. 21 Journal-World, in an effort to “educate themselves,” Fred Logan Jr., the chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents has directed Kansas University to assess all the university buildings for the impact of carrying concealed weapons into them as directed by Kansas “lawmakers” by the year 2017. This would be costly for taxpayers and the conclusions, extremely hypothetical.

Instead, why not have Fred and the regents charter an airplane and fly over to Somalia for a week or two to see just how well citizens carrying guns is working? They could take along Gov. Brownback, our fearless leader, who champions a gun for everyone who wants to carry one, along with all our right-winged state Republicans who blackmailed KU to punish a KU professor, (David Guth) whose crime was daring to question Kansas gun policy.

They might also invite the backbone-less seven-member KU faculty committee who caved in and rubber stamped the punishment for Guth. Others could include Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association, Chancellor Gray-Little and Provost Vitter to take copious notes.

While there, they could carry locked and loaded AK-47s as they ramble the dusty streets of Mogadishu to acquaint and familiarize themselves with others who roam these streets carrying guns. While there, they might take a field rip to the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, where there are armed guards, to perhaps do a little shopping and complete the experience.
