From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 26, 1988:

• The Lawrence City Commission this week unanimously approved the concept of two-way traffic for Sixth and New Hampshire streets to accommodate traffic flow for the planned riverfront retail project. An engineering study by the Chelsea Group, developers for the project, had come out in support of the two-way traffic. In their decision, city commissioners disregarded a study by the city’s own consultants who had said the existing one-way operation offered a better alternative for traffic flow.
• In Topeka, attorney Margie Phelps denied today that she was “on a vendetta” against Atty. Gen. Robert Stephan. Phelps confirmed that her firm had sued the attorney general six times, but that those suits had been against Stephan in his official capacity as attorney general and not directed at him personally. Phelps had been the first witness called as testimony began this week in the trial for a $5.2 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against Stephan.
