Public forum will address homelessness in Lawrence

A public forum in early November will address the causes of homelessness in Lawrence, focusing mainly on affordable housing.

The forum, “Homelessness and Housing — Where We Are and Where We Go From Here,” will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 New Hampshire St., on Nov. 9 from 1-4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The forum includes three speakers: Shannon Oury, Director of the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority, Loring Henderson, Director of the Lawrence Community Shelter, and Paul Boden, Organizing Director of the Western Regional Advocacy Project, a group that pushes for more affordable housing and the rights of the homeless.

David Smith, a professor of sociology at Kansas University, will moderate.

After hearing from the speakers, attendees may participate in break-out sessions to discuss possible solutions to the issues presented.
