It’s officially the time of year when things get pretty scary. Ghosts, goblins and zombie cheerleaders roam the streets with no particular destination in mind. Not prepared, are you? Don’t fret; there’s still time before All Hallows Eve. In fact, there are plenty of options on Mass. Street that will suit your fancy (or your not-so-fancy).

First stop: Sarah’s Costume. Located in the basement of Sarah’s Fabrics, 925 Massachusetts St., and open year-round, Sarah’s Costumes is prepared for all your rental needs. With a book of options neatly organized, you’re sure to find something that will be of interest to you. Rentals here are, on average, $30-$35 for approximately a 24-hour period (although there’s some flexibility there). There are also accessories (wigs, hats, jewelry, etc.) available for purchase. Known for unique items — exciting flapper dresses, for example — Sarah’s Costumes is worth a stop if you’re interested in a one-time wear.

Would you rather make an investment to keep your ideal costume for years to come? Head on over to Fun and Games, located in the upstairs of the Antique Mall, 830 Massachusetts St. Also open year-round, this expansive shop offers over 1,000 costumes for purchase. Here you will find plenty of accessories, children’s costumes, masks, wigs and the like scattered throughout. While all costumes range in price, it’s easy to see there are numerous options in putting together a creative getup.

For those of you who aren’t into dressing up, I’ll suggest an easy out: the T-shirt costume! ACME, 847 Massachusetts St., has some fun “costume” options that require nothing more than slipping on a T-shirt. Lego dude, skeleton, Twister board and more, ACME has some truly unusual options, all at just $15.95. Have an idea you’d like to see realized? You can have a T-shirt design made (it only takes about an hour) for $16-$21 (depending on the design).

The last option I’ll talk about is specific to the younger folks out there: The Toy Store, 938 Massachusetts St., has a decent selection of costumes, such as Ninja Turtles, doctors, pirates and the forever popular princess outfits.
