FSHS football still behind No. 1 Derby

Free State High’s football team remains behind top-ranked Derby in the latest Kpreps.com Class 6A rankings.

Derby (6-1) surpassed the Firebirds (6-1) following Free State’s Oct. 3 loss at Olathe North and has maintained the No. 1 ranking, previously occupied by FSHS, since.

The top two teams in 6A are followed by No. 3 Shawnee Mission East (6-1), No. 4 Gardner-Edgerton (6-1) and No. 5 O-North (5-2), which broke into the top five for the first time this season.

FSHS, 1-0 in district after winning at Kansas City, Kan., Wyandotte last week, plays host to Leavenworth (3-4) on Friday.

The 5A rankings didn’t change from last week, with unbeaten Mill Valley (7-0) holding the final spot in the top five, behind No. 1 Bishop Carroll (7-0), No. 2 Bishop Miege (6-1), No. 3 Blue Valley (5-2) and No. 4 Salina South (5-2).

Nothing shifted in the 4A top five, either, which features No. 3 Baldwin (7-0). Holton (7-0) is No. 1, followed by Andale (7-0), Baldwin, Buhler (6-1) and Paola (6-1).
