• The 16th annual reunion of the Kansas University Alumni Band was to be held this weekend in conjunction with KU’s Homecoming celebrations. More than 150 former band members were expected to participate in the parade and a halftime show at the KU-Colorado football game.
• Haskell Indian Junior College’s new acting president, Van Peters, arrived this week to take the post at the school after Gerald Gipp had been placed on temporary assignment in Washington, D.C. Peters, 52, was spending the day touring the campus, “taking a look at some of the facilities and trying to get a general feel for the campus,” he said in a telephone interview.
