Entries being accepted for statewide Factual Story Contest

Entries are now being accepted for the Annual Kansas Factual Story Contest. Sponsored by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas, the contest encourages written preservation of factual, unpublished happenings and anecdotes in the lives of Kansans today and yesterday.

The contest is open to everyone, and entries are limited to one per person. Stories are limited to 750 words, must be true and unpublished and take place in Kansas. Entries must be submitted by email no later than Nov. 22. Send entries to Terry Marmet, Kansas Historical Foundation, at membership@kshs.org. Include “Beech Memorial Contest” in the subject line. The author’s name, mailing address and phone number must be included on the essay.

Winners will be announced and recognized at the annual meeting of the Native Sons and Daughters Jan. 24 in Topeka. Cash awards are $175 for first place, $125 for second, $100 for third and $50 each for two honorable mentions. For more information, email or call Marmet at 785-272-8681, ext. 209.
