DCSS board introduces new executive director

Douglas County Senior Services will have a new executive director, its board of directors announced on Thursday.

Kristin Scheurer, the marketing director for Bridge Haven, a Lawrence assisted living complex, will begin as the DCSS director on October 23. Scheurer has more than 20 years of professional experience, including a background in marketing and communications. On Thursday, the DCSS board of directors added that Scheurer possessed an understanding and passion for working with seniors. That will be an asset as the DCSS forecasts record numbers of baby boomers retiring in the coming years.

“The Douglas County Senior Services Board has a vision to attract retiring boomers to Lawrence and Douglas County,” Schuerer said Thursday in a news release, “and to enhance the senior center to deliever a simple and easy way for retirees and seniors to get connected to information, services and activities so they can continue an active, independent life.”

DCSS, located at 745 New Hampshire St., offers meal services, transportation, medicare information and caregiver support among other services.
