Texas soccer clips KU, 1-0

Texas goal keeper Abby Smith (1) pulls the ball away from Kansas' Caroline Kastor (10) during their soccer match Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. The Jayhawks fell to the Longhorns, 1-0.

Texas sophomore Aaron Strawser’s goal with less than four minutes remaining lifted the Longhorns to a 1-0 Big 12 soccer victory over Kansas University on Sunday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

KU fell to 5-6-2 overall, 0-1-1 in the Big 12, while UT improved to 9-4-1 and 3-1-0.

Both teams combined for 27 shots on the day, but only 11 were put on goal.

In the 86th minute, Texas sent a ball into Kansas’ half of the field, where it was picked up by Strawser.

The midfielder took the ball down the right side of the field and chipped a shot toward the far post from just inside the KU penalty box. The lopped shot managed to stay just out of the reach of Jayhawk keeper Kaitlyn Stroud and flew inside the top left corner of the frame.

Stroud had seven saves Sunday and 159 for her career, which ranks fifth on the KU all-time saves chart.

KU will host Texas Christian University at 4 p.m. Friday.
