LHS, FSHS tennis tie at Sunflower League

? Lawrence High’s Yelena Birt and Caroline Bologa placed second in No. 2 doubles while Free State’s Alexis Czapinski was runner-up in No. 1 singles, Thursday at the Sunflower League girls tennis tournament.

The Lions and Firebirds tied for seventh in the team standings.

Lawrence’s Kendall Pritchard placed fourth in No. 2 singles.

“I was very pleased with our No. 2 players,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “They played above their seeds. I was very proud of the way they played.

Free State No. 2 singles player Megan McReynolds finished seventh, as did No. 2 doubles partners Alyssa Raye and Rachel Walters.

“Today was a tough day logistically that definitely made it a tough tennis day,” FSHS coach Oather Strawderman said. “We were scheduled to start at 9 a.m. but did not start until 1 p.m. due to heavy rain. The girls did a great job fighting through the hectic schedule, which included matches at three different sites.”

Lawrence High will host a regional Saturday, Oct. 12.
