Appeals panel affirms conviction of man sentenced for injuring Lawrence police officer

? A panel of the Kansas Court of Appeals today affirmed the conviction of a Lawrence man who was sentenced for injuring a police officer.

In 2011, Louis Galloway Jr. , who was 20 at the time, was sentenced to nearly six years in prison after being convicted of punching Officer Jonathon Evinger as he and another officer tried to arrest Galloway for driving on a suspended license.

Evinger said he suffered permanent eye injuries from the February 2011 incident.

Galloway challenged his conviction on numerous grounds, but the appellate panel said the evidence showed he was guilty of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
