Meetings in Lawrence to explain new health care law

Lawrence-area residents will have a chance to learn more about the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, at a series of meetings scheduled to take place in the community over the next several weeks. The first meeting is set for Wednesday.

The sessions are open to the public and will feature local experts on the 2010 health care law, which aims to expand health coverage to those without it and requires that nearly every American carry some form of insurance.

Meetings scheduled for the Lawrence Public Library, 700 New Hampshire St., will consist of trained navigators and certified application consultants answering questions and helping enroll people in the law’s health insurance marketplace, which started today. The library meetings are set for Wednesday from 3-5 p.m., Oct. 10 from 1-5 p.m., Oct. 11 from 5-7 p.m. and Oct. 19 from 5-7 p.m.

Forums at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine St. (in the lower-level auditorium), will feature experts discussing the law. The forums are scheduled for Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
