40 years ago: LMH room rates increased by $4 per day

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 25, 1973:

  • The Lawrence Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees this week unanimously approved an immediate $4 per day rate increase for general care and acute care rooms. The rate hikes raised general care room costs per day from $35.25 to $39.25 and the acute rooms from $74 to $78. Hospital administrator Donald Lenz said LMH was still charging less than other area hospitals. Semi-private room rates in Topeka, Kansas City, Manhattan, and Emporia ranged from $42.12 to $60.90.
  • Two local agencies were to divide a small sum of money confiscated by Lawrence police during a gambling raid the previous weekend. The men involved in the raid had agreed to donate the $150 to the Ballard Center and Penn House in exchange for a reduction of their fines.
