Police arrest four after early morning fight, battery of officer

Lawrence police arrested four men early Thursday morning after a fight that involved one of the men elbowing an officer in the mouth.

The arrests occurred not long after officers on foot patrol near 14th and Ohio streets encountered four men fighting at 1:57 a.m, according to Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

McKinley said that the men continued fighting even after the officers approached the group and identified themselves. After an officer pulled one man from the fight, the man hit the officer in the mouth “forcefully with his elbow before attempting to punch the officer in the face,” McKinley said.

The officer was not seriously hurt and arrested all the men on suspicion of disorderly conduct. One, Jeffery Lyndon Darnel Bowen, 21, of Lawrence, faces an additional count of battery of a law enforcement officer.

Others arrested were Jeffrey Samuel Lovetinsky, 20, of Lawrence, Bryce Patrick Duncan, 19, of Lawrence, and Joshua Ryan Wilson, 19, of Spring Hill.
