Lawrence Journal-World wins first place in LMA 2013 Newspaper of the Year contest

The Lawrence Journal-World won first place in the Local Media Association’s 2013 Newspaper of the Year contest, the association announced Tuesday.

The newspaper was judged on criteria including journalism, typography and advertising. It won the top award among daily newspapers with circulation below 30,000 per day.

“I could not be more proud of our staff,” said Scott Stanford, general manager of the media division of The World Company. “Our goal is to be a great community newspaper and this is one indication that we’re living up to that goal.”

The Local Media Association is a non-profit, professional trade association representing suburban and community newspapers. The association’s membership is comprised of more than 2,000 newspapers in the United States and Canada.
