The Kansas Highway Patrol identified a woman killed Saturday in a rollover accident in southwest Douglas County as 63-year-old Iva Tomlinson of Harveyville.
The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 56 near mile marker 417, six miles east of Overbrook.
According to the KHP report, Tomlinson’s husband, George Tomlinson III, was driving their 2003 Toyota Tundra westbound on Highway 56. He moved to the right edge of his lane to make room for two eastbound vehicles that were hugging the center line, and the wheels on the passenger side left the roadway, sending the vehicle into the ditch.
The vehicle struck a field access culvert, went airborne, and landed on its front bumper. The vehicle then flipped and came to a stop on the driver’s side.
Iva Tomlinson was trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive when officers arrived. Emergency responders began life-saving efforts, but Tomlinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
George Tomlinson, 69, was taken to KU Medical Center. His condition was unavailable Saturday.
Both occupants were wearing seat belts.
