25 years ago: Angry party-goers suspected in apartment fire

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 13, 1988:

Lawrence police today were searching for two suspects who they believed had set a fire early Saturday morning at a Lawrence apartment complex. The blaze, which had broken out in an unoccupied basement apartment in four-plex in the 800 block of West 25th Street, had occurred on the same night as a party in a second-floor apartment in the same building. Police said that during the party, the two suspects had begun arguing with the host and had been told to leave. After the party’s hosts were asleep, police believed, the suspects had returned and started the fire, which caused $5,000 in damages. The apartments had no smoke alarms, but a passerby had seen and reported the fire.
