Lawrence Schools Foundation will honor philanthropist, music educator

The Lawrence Schools Foundation is inviting the public to honor local philanthropist William Dann and music educator Janeal Krehbiel.

Dann will be recognized for his recent $50,000 preschool program donation to the Lawrence Schools Foundation, a nonprofit that supports Lawrence public school students.

Krehbiel will be honored for her 37 years as a music educator and co-founder of the Lawrence Children’s Choir, which offers singing programs to children.

Over time, Dann has contributed more than $650,000 to the foundation, according to a statement from the organization. He typically selects another individual to be honored for his or her contribution to the local community and this year chose Krehbiel.

“The foundation always looks forward to the opportunity to publicly thank Mr. Dann for his generous support,” Susan Esau, the foundation’s executive director, said in a statement. “We are thrilled this year to be honoring Janeal, who worked with hundreds of children for more than 30 years and built a choir that attracted national attention.”

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at the Kennedy School library.
