Haskell men’s cross country, runner 1st in MCAC; Women 2nd

Haskell Indian Nations University sophomore runner Chad Upshaw won by 26 seconds to lead the HINU men’s cross country team to a Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on Saturday at their home course.

Upshaw ran a 28:10.50 8K and was joined up front by teammates Tony McCabe (fifth place, 29:28.54), Jessie Madelena (sixth, 29:28.66), Herbert Beyale III (ninth, 29:48.04), and Josh Munson (13th, 30:17.19).

The HINU women’s team took second in the MCAC meet with a runner-up finish from junior Talisa Budder. Budder ran the 5K in 19:28.02, with Tiar’e Littlehead (seventh, 20:51.81), Ashlee Wermy (eighth, 20:55.81), Samantha Taylor (10th, 21:01.85) and Marie Caddo (24th, 23:10.95) rounding out the scoring.

Upshaw, Budder, Littlehead and Wermy qualified for the NAIA National Championships, which will be held Nov. 23 at Rim Rock Farm. All four are two-time national qualifiers.
