• The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced its officers and committee chairs for 2014.

Those are: Mike McGrew as chair; Brad Finkeldei as chair-elect; Shannon Abrahamson as treasurer; Doug Gaumer as past chair; Kevin O’Malley and Gary Rexroad as government and community affairs co-chairs; Jane Blocher as Leadership Lawrence officer; Cal Karlin as university relations officer; Joe Caldwell and Allen Belot as economic development co-chairs; Kathy Clausing-Willis and Scott Zaremba as operations co-chairs; Susan Cantrell as communications officer; and Jason Edmonds and Kirsten Flory as membership co-chairs.

• The Lawrence Convention & Visitors Bureau received top honors for marketing by the Travel Industry Association of Kansas. The Lawrence CVB took home the online marketing award for its digital advertising campaigns, updated website and a Twitter project commemorating the 150th anniversary of Quantrill’s Raid.

• The Kansas University Small Business Development Center will hold a free seminar for start-up entrepreneurs. Exploring Entrepreneurship will be presented from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the center office, 646 Vermont, Suite 200. Preregister by calling 843-8844 or sign up for the event at www.facebook.com/kuksbdc. The seminar will focus on topics including permits and licenses, funding, taxes, marketing and writing a business plan.

• Black Hills Energy named David Bellinder its new operations supervisor for customer services in Lawrence. Bellinder joined Black Hills Energy as a service technician in 2005. He led its home weatherization program in Lawrence for the past seven years and is an active community volunteer.

• Van Go Inc. received an $8,200 grant from the Best Buy Children’s Foundation to support teens receiving access to technology. The funds will allow Van Go to expand the digital arts aspect of its job-training program. The grant comes as part of Best Buy’s Community Grants program.

• Jami Growney has joined Jenny’s Kids, Inc. as an occupational therapist and feeding specialist. Jenny’s Kids is a pediatric occupational therapy clinic in Lawrence. Growney will provide therapy for children with feeding issues and sensory processing disorders.

• Callahan Creek has been selected as the agency of record for PROSCO Inc. PROSCO is a Lawrence-based company specializing in custom formulation of specialty cleaners and protective treatments for masonry and concrete. Callahan Creek’s other clients include Free State Brewing Co., Sprint, Westar Energy and others, according to a statement.

• Merchants Pub and Plate owner Philip Wilson announced plans to continue providing free Hospice Caring Cuisine meals once a week for families with a member receiving care at Visiting Nurses Hospice. Merchants Pub and Plate, formerly Tellers, will continue providing meals for up to five family members. Caring Cuisine is now in its fifth year.

• Prime Lending announced the addition of Dee Weber and Deana Shenouda to its staff. Weber is a senior loan originator with more than 30 years of experience. Shenouda has 15 years experience in the mortgage industry. Prime Lending is a division of Plains Capital Company, based in Dallas, Texas.

• Michele Johnson, of Pilates Performance & Rehab, recently earned 16 continuing education credits at the 13th annual Meeting of the Pilates Method Alliance in Fort Lauderdale. Johnson attended classes presented by first generation Pilates instructors who earned certification from founder Joseph H. Pilates, according to a statement.

• A Lawrence woman was among this year’s inductees into the Home Care & Hospice Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C. Judy Bellome, the former CEO of the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, was inducted at a ceremony in the nation’s capital during the National Association for Home Care & Hospice’s annual meeting. Bellome, a nurse by trade, worked for more than a quarter century in clinical and administrative roles in home health, hospice and adult day health services. From 2005 until her retirement in 2013, she served as CEO of the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, which provides home health and hospice care to homebound Douglas County residents.
