From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 3, 1973:

• Radio station KANU-FM had gained permission to relocate and build a taller tower on surplus land at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. According to station director Dick Wright, KANU had applied for a $150,000 grant through an educational broadcasting facilities program during the summer to build a 1,200-foot tower to replace its 605-foot tower in the West Campus area. The station was to remain in Broadcasting Hall, just west of Hoch Auditorium on the Kansas University campus, and its signals would be relayed to the new tower from a microwave antenna placed on Hoch or on a small tower near Marvin Hall. A preliminary investigation into available land had turned up the 195-acre Sunflower land, which was being used as a KU and KU Medical Center research farm, Wright said. He added that he would prefer finding a location west of Lawrence, from which the station could serve more of the state.
• A sidewalk for Haskell Avenue was to be one of the main items up for discussion at the upcoming Lawrence City Commission meeting. The sidewalks had met with public protest at the commission’s Sept. 12 meeting and had been deferred.
