The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather statement for the surrounding area, including Douglas County.

According to the statement, a line of thunderstorms will move through southeastern portions of Douglas and Franklin counties before 10 p.m. The storms are not severe, but may bring lightning and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

The National Weather Service indicated that motorists along the Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 117 and 123 could be affected, as well as those on Interstate 35 between markers 131 and 199.
