Tonganoxie 29, Basehor-Linwood 14

Tonganoxie — Cole Holloway ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns, and Tonganoxie High clinched its second straight district title with a win Thursday night against Basehor-Linwood.

The Chieftains (8-1, 3-0 Class 4A District 2) led by a single touchdown at halftime, but limited the Bobcats (3-6, 1-2) to 69 yards of offense in the second half.

BLHS scored on its first possession when quarterback Tim Sanders hit Dalton Inlow on a crossing pattern on third-and-18 deep in Bobcats territory. Inlow beat the defense and went 74 yards for a score, then Sanders hit Jahron McPherson on the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

THS answered with a 16-yard scoring run by Holloway, capping off a drive of 10-straight running plays, and quarterback Tyler Ford added a conversion on the ground to tie it up midway through the period.

The Chieftains took the lead on the second play of the second quarter when Holloway scored from five yards out, but the Bobcats responded on the ensuing drive when Sanders hit Crowe for a 36-yard touchdown. Ford threw a touchdown pass of his own to Jared Sommers with 6:12 left in the half, and THS took a 22-14 lead into the locker room.

With the win, Tonganoxie advances to the 4A playoffs. It will host District 1 runner-up Bishop Ward (2-7) in Tuesday’s bi-district round. The Chieftains won Oct. 4 at BWHS, 55-6.

Baldwin 42, Eudora 17

Baldwin City — Baldwin High School wrapped up an undefeated regular season, claimed an undisputed Frontier League title and moved on to postseason play as district champion with a victory against Eudora.

Baldwin scored on four of its first six possessions and added a long punt return for a touchdown against its rival as it built a 35-3 halftime lead. In the center of the offensive, as they have been all season, were senior quarterback Chad Berg and senior running back Cornell Brown. Berg started the scoring for Baldwin with a 32-yard touchdown run on the Bulldogs’ first possession. After Eudora consumed the rest of the first-quarter clock on a drive that ended with a field goal, the Bulldogs answered with a 10-play scoring drive, which ended with Brown’s 15-yard touchdown run. Brown then busted a 95-punt return, giving Baldwin a 21-3 lead.

Baldwin (9-0) will play St. James Academy (6-3) Tuesday at home. Eudora (5-4) failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Meriden — Ian Mullins ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead Jefferson West. Perry-Lecompton’s TD came on a 15-yard pass from Mitchell Bond to Quinten Sledd.
