One of two Topeka men facing charges in connection with a May 19 shooting in Lawrence that left two men in critical condition has been indicted on federal gun charges, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for Kansas Wednesday.

Steven Michael Gigger, 29, was arrested along with Erick Shakeel Smith, 20, one day after the shooting of Tommy D. Andrews, 33, and Michael A. Holford, 27, both also of Topeka, in the 800 block of Greever Terrace about 3:40 a.m. on May 19. Gigger was charged in Douglas County District Court with one count of misdemeanor battery and one count of criminal possession of a firearm. He had spent time in Kansas prisons after being convicted of aggravated robbery in Shawnee County in 2002. Smith faces two counts of aggravated battery.

Gigger is now charged in federal court with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, one count of unlawful possession of ammunition and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm with the serial number obliterated.

If convicted, Gigger could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count.
