Around and About for May 25, 2013

Evan Taylor, of Lawrence, was awarded a Bachelor of Arts cum laude degree during Creighton University’s commencement ceremony on May 18 in Omaha, Neb.

William Collins, of Baldwin City, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2013 session at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Students named to the list earned at least a 3.5 GPA.

Students attending area high schools and community colleges have been awarded scholarships by Washburn University. Students are listed below by their hometown.

The Emporia State University Foundation has announced that the 2013-14 Shepherd Scholars include Adam Petz, of Lawrence, who is majoring in mathematics. Augusta Shepherd and her late husband, R. Hershel Shepherd of Emporia, established the Shepherd Scholars program in 1994 to provide financial support for Emporia State’s most accomplished students as they approach their senior year in college.

Rachael Elizabeth Beaumont, of Lawrence, was among more than 2,750 students who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at commencement exercises May 3 and 4. Beaumont received a master of education degree from the Graduate College.

Emma Lumpe, of Lawrence, was among more than 60 Milwaukee School of Engineering students who were nominated for leadership awards this year. She received the Senior Women’s Athlete of the Year Award at MSOE’s annual President’s Student Leadership Awards Dinner on May 8. Lumpe is majoring in architectural engineering and is a standout soccer player at MSOE.

Baldwin City resident Joy Hawkins was among the more than 800 students who graduated from Bob Jones University earlier this month in Greenville, S.C. Hawkins graduated with a MMus in Performance.
