Jim and Gail Ellis, of Lawrence, were relieved Tuesday to find their son Andrew after he walked away from a group home in Leawood early in the morning. Andrew Ellis, 20, lives in the supervised community because he suffers from a brain injury and his parents were worried that he wasn't safe walking the streets by himself.
Leawood police issued an alert to law enforcement in the Kansas City area. Jim Ellis had said he thought Andrew might make his way to Lawrence, where his parents live.
Gail Ellis said Andrew suffers from a developmental brain injury that might not be immediately apparent to those who meet him. He left the Life Centers community living center in Leawood, where he has been living since December, early Tuesday morning on foot, and was located by his parents later in the day.
