Two KU students arrested in connection with break-in at Memorial Stadium

Two 19-year-old Kansas University students were arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of breaking into the university’s Memorial Stadium and attempting to steal a chair.

Brent G. Uebelhart, Overland Park, and Kevin E. Shaw, Western Springs, Ill., were arrested by campus police officers on patrol about 2 a.m. Friday, said Capt. Schuyler Bailey, a KU Public Safety Office spokesman. The officers were patrolling the stadium when they noticed suspects trying to remove the chair. One of the men was arrested in the 1100 block of Fambrough Drive. The other was arrested in the 1100 block of Mississippi Street. The chair, valued at $180, was recovered and may have been one of the stadium’s luxury seats, Bailey said, but details were not available Friday morning.

Uebelhart and Shaw were both booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Both remained in custody Friday morning, with bond set at $3,100.
