Weekend wrap-up: Lawrence woman guilty of driving car into house, juveniles charged in robbery at gunpoint

A 24-year-old Johnson County man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison Friday for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in Douglas County. Dakota Dale McDaniel was sentenced to 105 months in prison after being found guilty in Douglas County Court in February of the drug charge and possession of stolen property.

A 19-year-old Lawrence woman was found guilty of criminal damage and criminal threat Friday, in connection with a Nov. 18 incident in which a vehicle was driven into a Lawrence house. Megan Victoria Wilson pleaded no contest to both charges Friday in Douglas County Court, and is scheduled for sentencing in May. She could face probation, 30 days in jail, or up to 19 months in prison, said Douglas County District Court Judge Paula Martin.

A 28-year-old Lawrence man was sentenced to 36 months of probation Friday in connection with the November 2011 sexual assault of a 24-year-old Lawrence woman at a residence in south-central Lawrence. Kyle A. Wright pleaded no contest to aggravated sexual assault in Douglas County Court in December, and could face 32 months in prison if he violates the terms of probation, according to Douglas County prosecutors. He will be required to register as a sex offender for 25 years.

  • A 25-year-old Lawrence man was sentenced to 59 days in jail Friday in connection with a Sept. 15 incident at Saint’s Bar, 2329 Iowa. Miguel Ayala was found guilty Feb. 14 of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon and battery of a law enforcement officer. Douglas County District Court Judge Michael Malone, also sentenced Ayala to 18 months of probation, as required by Kansas state sentencing guidelines. Ayala could be sent to prison for that time if he violates the terms of probation, Malone said.
  • Douglas County prosecutors have dropped robbery and weapons charges filed against a 19-year-old Lawrence man arrested earlier this month in connection with the March 7 robbery at gunpoint of a pedestrian. Two juveniles also arrested in the case remain charged with several offenses, including aggravated robbery, conspiracy, and weapons charges, Douglas County prosecutors said, and charges could be filed again against Caleb Christopher Mar Sheridan. The juveniles’ names have not been made public because of their age.
  • A 22-year-old Jefferson County man has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated battery, and domestic battery in Jefferson County Court in connection with a domestic disturbance, according to prosecutors. Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig said Marcel Smith was arrested by Atchison police Monday after fleeing the scene of the incident.
