Copies of “A Kansas Bestiary” will be for sale at an upcoming event to celebrate the book’s hard-cover release and raise funds for the Kansas Land Trust.

Artist Lisa Grossman painted 15 Kansas creatures — ranging from bullfrogs to bison — for “Bestiary,” authored by Lawrence residents Doug Hitt and Jake Vail.

The celebration is planned for 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 7 in the Heritage Room at the Carnegie Building, 200 West Ninth St.

The event will feature readings by Hitt and Vail, a show of Grossman’s original watercolor illustrations, book signings, light refreshments and a cash bar. Proceeds from book sales will benefit the Kansas Land Trust, a nonprofit group dedicated to protecting Kansas lands of ecological, agricultural, scenic, historic and recreational significance.
