April Fools’ Day comedy show pokes fun at Lawrence, helps causes

“50 Shades of Baby J?”

Prepare yourselves. That’s the theme of the first-round comedy sketch at the April Fool Comedy Showdown coming to Jackpot Saloon.

The event, described as “a free, open-to-the-public comedy funfest featuring performers of various genres from across Lawrence,” is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Jackpot, 943 Massachusetts St.

Two comedy teams will compete in the three-round event, hosted by Andy Morton of Channel 6’s “1 on 1 Trivia.” Audience members will be chosen at random to serve on the judges’ panel, and the winning team gets bragging rights and a $200 donation to a Lawrence nonprofit group of their choice (they’ve chosen Theatre Lawrence and the Lawrence Humane Society).

Featured performers include Mike Anderson, Will Averill, Barry Barnes, Matt Gaus, Monica Greenwood, Jacqueline Grunau, Emily Lowrance-Floyd, Peter Lyrene, Jay Maus, Chris Nelson, Ed Parker, Kitty Steffens, October Strange, Vintage Players and The Travelers.
