Free State tennis perfect in opener

? Free State High opened its tennis season with a bang.

The Firebirds swept a quadrangular with Topeka High, Olathe South and Topeka Highland Park on Wednesday at Kossover Tennis Complex.

Richard Lu (No. 1) and Josh Saathoff (No. 2) each went 3-0 in singles, and Brandon Juracek-Miles Stevens (No. 1) and Stephen Anderson-Tucker Nickel (No. 2) went 3-0 in doubles.

“After such a rough start to the season with regards to the weather affecting practice, today was a great indication of the strength of our team,” FSHS coach Oather Strawderman said. “The play showed by our veterans and newcomers to varsity bodes well for the rest of the season. …Twelve-and-0 is an amazing start to a season.”
