25 years ago: KU headed to Final Four after victory over K State

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 28, 1988:

An “impromptu horn-blowing motor parade on Jayhawk Boulevard” had started just minutes after the previous afternoon’s 71-58 Kansas victory over the K State Wildcats in Pontiac, Michigan. KU was now headed for Kansas City as March fever swept over the area. Thousands of people had filled Allen Fieldhouse to greet coach Larry Brown and the team who were taking KU to the Final Four for the second time in three years. “Pinch me,” wrote Journal-World Sports Editor Chuck Woodling on today’s front page. “Is this really happening?… Is this the team that was flogged two times in Hawaii by Iowa and Illinois? Is this the team that had lost two starters by mid-season? Is this the team that lost two straight at home to end a 55-game streak?” One hundred and fourteen KU students who had shown superlative faith in their team in February by filing applications for tournament tickets were being rewarded today with seats for the upcoming Kansas City games.
