Road work on East 23rd Street to begin Thursday

Drivers should expect delays for the rest of this week on East 23rd Street, between Haskell and Barker avenues, as road crews replace pavement on each side of the new bridge.

The project is scheduled to start Thursday and be completed by Saturday. The Kansas Department of Transportation says traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the duration of the project. Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Traffic will be directed through the work zone via cones and signage. Message boards will alert drivers about lane closures ahead.

KDOT says drivers should expect major delays during peak travel times.

The project had been scheduled to start earlier this week but was delayed because of inclement weather.
