25 years ago: KU to battle K State for Final Four berth

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 26, 1988:

  • In Pontiac, Michigan, the Kansas Jayhawks were preparing to battle the Kansas State Wildcats on the basketball court for a spot in the NCAA Final Four. K State fans in the Silverdome had cheered for Kansas in their 77-64 semifinal win over Vanderbilt (in which Danny Manning had scored 38 points), and KU fans had returned the favor at the Wildcats’ 73-70 win over Purdue. The two Kansas teams were to meet tomorrow at 12:58 p.m.
  • A Winfield home for people with developmental disabilities was to be decertified for its alleged failure to provide proper training. Jack Gumb, director of Adult Care Home Programs for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, said this week that the New Horizons Home would be decertified because it had failed a recent survey by the Department of Health and Environment. “The residents are being well cared for from a maintenance point of view, but the training aspect was the problem,” Gumb said.
