BYU blanks KU baseball

? BYU junior Desmond Poulson tossed a five-hit shutout, and leadoff hitter Jacob Hannemann went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI as the Cougars blanked Kansas University, 3-0, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday night.

The Jayhawks fell to 13-7, and BYU snapped a four-game losing streak and moved to 10-11.

Jayhawk senior pitcher Tanner Poppe matched Poulson through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth. Poppe took his first loss of the year, going 41/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

KU had just five singles.

The Jayhawks will look to bounce back in game two of the series at 7 tonight.
