25 years ago: KU salaries, capital improvements benefit by new state budget

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 17, 1988:

The Kansas House today gave final approval to a $788 million budget for Kansas Board of Regents universities, providing more money for faculty salaries. The budget, which had passed 112-13, included another $27.6 million for capital improvements at the schools and was now headed to the Senate. The plan included a 4 percent salary increase for classified employees and student employees, and a 5 percent increase for all faculty. It passed on a voice vote in the House after the defeat of a proposed amendment which would have forbidden the six Regents universities from spending money on remedial education classes.
