40 years ago: Residence halls gaining in popularity

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 3, 1973:

  • More Kansas University students were living in residence halls this semester than at any time since the fall of 1970, according to Joseph Wilson, director of the KU dormitory system. Residence hall occupancy had bottomed out in that year during an apartment construction boom in Lawrence. This year, there were 4,020 dormitory spaces rented, up from 3,841 in the spring of 1970.
  • Movies available for viewing to Lawrence theater-goers this week included “The Ruling Class,” “The Poseidon Adventure,” “Cabaret,” and Walt Disney’s “The World’s Greatest Athlete.”
