Caleb Holland scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Veritas’ third boys basketball win of the season over Topeka Cair Paravel in the consolation round of the KCAA state tournament in Junction City on Friday.

Veritas (17-8) tips off for fifth place today at 2 p.m. against St. John’s Military at Junction City Middle School. Veritas lost, 59-58, at St. John’s Military in the regular season last month.

Thomas Bachert scored 14 points against Cair Paravel, adding six rebounds and six blocks.

Veritas led 26-16 at halftime, and by 19 points after three quarters.

“This was the third time we’ve played them,” said coach Gary Hammer. “We won the first first two times. It’s sometimes hard to beat a team three times in one season.

“We’re excited to play for fifth place and against St. John’s again and hope for a different ending to it. Tomorrow’s the last game of the season and hopefully we can get fifth place.”
