Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. Summer bike ride: Lawrence Bicycle Club Summer Fun Beginner’s Ride will be held Mondays. The ride begins at 6:45 p.m. at Cycle Works, 2121 Kasold, preceded at 6:15 for tech and riding tips. The ride will be approximately 10 miles (the first few rides will be seven miles) at 10 mph, mostly on the bike path. All are welcome; kids under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and all children under 18 must have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. Girls youth basketball camp: Lawrence High girls basketball coach Nick Wood and Free State High girls coach Bryan Duncan will host a basketball camp for girls entering grades 3-8. KU rowing camp: Kansas University will hold a rowing camp geared toward beginning rowers June 29 and 30. LMH runs: Two 5K run/walks to benefit the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association will be held in the coming months: 7:30 a.m. July 20 in Tonganoxie and 8 a.m. Aug. 17 in Baldwin City. City golf tournament: The city golf tournament will be played July 13-14 at Alvamar Public (Saturday) and Lawrence Country Club (Sunday).
