Lawrence man arrested in alleged beating, robbery

A 27-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with the alleged beating and robbery of a female victim the day before. He was the second of three suspects to be arrested.

Lawrence police had responded to a reported fight Sunday evening in the 1700 block of West 24th Street, where a female victim had been severely beaten by three people who also stole her phone, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman. One suspect, Jeremy Cochise Jones, 26, of Lawrence, was arrested Sunday and released with no charges filed. On Monday, Marcus Jerome Lee Bell, 27, of Lawrence, was arrested about 3:45 in the same block where the attack had occurred, McKinley said. A female suspect in the case had not yet been located Tuesday.

Bell remained in Douglas County Jail Tuesday, with bond not yet set. He had not yet been formally charged in Douglas County District Court, according to court records.
