From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 15, 1988:

• Robert Greenlee of Lawrence was awarded a grand prize this week in a sweepstakes he had entered last year. The 62-year-old retired post office worker had been one of 750 people nationwide to win a vehicle in the Great American Chevy Chase sweepstakes. Greenlee had entered by buying a can of Folger’s coffee and matching up the number on the cardboard key inside with a number at a Chevrolet dealership. Although his number didn’t match, he was then eligible to send it in for a random drawing, with odds of one in 200 million of winning. “I happened to be one of the lucky ones,” said Greenlee after picking up his new Chevrolet Corsica at a Lawrence dealership.
• The Lawrence City Commission on Tuesday had discussed a potential lease agreement and a preliminary site plan for the proposed factory outlet shopping center along the Kansas River. East-coast-based developers had announced in late may their plans to build the shopping center along the river just east of city hall. The 150,000-square-foot project, tentatively called the “Kansas River Plaza,” was to involve some renovation of old buildings and some new construction.
