From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 11, 1973:

• Participants at the 31st annual Sunflower Girls’ State today were told that civic participation from the ground up would be vital in their future lives. “The more you get into the grass roots of government, the better government you will have,” Douglas County Clerk Delbert Mathia told the 423 delegates this morning at Kansas University. Female high school juniors from all over Kansas were attending the week of civic “learning by doing” sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Kansas.
• Stephen Hill, president of Kansas Fibreboard Inc., today announced the purchase of all shares of the Bowersock Mills and Power Co. for an undisclosed amount. The Bowersock plant was located on city-owned land east of the Kansas River bridge and connected with the Fibreboard plant further to the east. An existing power contract with Kansas Power and Light would be continued, Hill said.
