From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 7, 1973:

• A Lawrence woman notified the Journal-World this week and asked them to pay a small printed tribute to six young people whose recent kindnesses had extended to visiting her on her birthday. Mrs. Dessie Dodds, who used a wheelchair in her home, said that the half-dozen Kansas University students visited her regularly and had made a special visit Wednesday to wish her a happy birthday. “I think it’s wonderful,” Mrs. Dodds said in a phone call to the newspaper office. “And the Journal-World is the only way I could think of to let them know how much I appreciated it…. On television they say college kids are on dope. But these kids aren’t. They’re wonderful…. Bless their hearts. Please say something nice about the students.”
• The Brizendine family, 1518 E 28th Terrace, reported today that the children of the house had discovered a nest, containing three eggs and one baby bird, in the grass in their recently mowed back yard. The children’s grandmother reported that she had also found a bird’s nest in her car’s engine compartment.
