LHS tennis camps: Lawrence High tennis camps will be open to all LHS tennis players attending LHS for the 2013-14 school year. The camps will be 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 4-July 18. There also will be a future LHS tennis camp for boys and girls in grades 6-8. The future camp will meet from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on the same dates. Players will work on tennis skills, strategies and group play. Cost for the 13 sessions is $65, or $5 a day. Summer bike ride: Lawrence Bicycle Club Summer Fun Beginner’s Ride will be held Mondays. The ride begins at 6:45 p.m. at Cycle Works, 2121 Kasold, preceded at 6:15 for tech and riding tips. The ride will be approximately 10 miles (the first few rides will be seven miles) at 10 mph, mostly on the bike path. All are welcome; kids under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and all children under 18 must have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. Hughes wins: Lawrence’s Dan Hughes won the Dirty Kanza 200 bike race over the weekend in Emporia. The DK 200 is a solo, self-supported 200-mile ride on gravel and dirt roads through the Flint Hills. Hughes has won three straight DK 200 titles and four overall.
