St. Patrick’s Day Parade board moves up deadline for beneficiary application

The deadline to apply to be a beneficiary of the 2014 Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been moved up to Aug. 5, two months earlier than in previous years.

The reason for the deadline is the introduction of a new event, the Half-Way to the Green golf tournament, which will be held Sept. 29.

Applications can be found at the organization’s website, lawrencestpatricksdayparade.com. All applications are due by 5 p.m. on Aug. 5 and may be submitted by mail or email.

After the parade each spring, the parade committee donates money, supplies and gifts to selected children’s charities in Douglas County. In the 2013 parade, donations were given to the Lawrence Arts Center Children’s Scholarship Fund, Ballard Community Services and the County Fair Swim Club.

In its 26 years, the committee has donated more than $750,000.
