Incoming freshman Kansas University basketball player Brannen Greene is scheduled to appear in Lawrence Municipal Court after being cited last week for leaving the scene of an accident.

Greene, 18, of Monroe, Ga., was cited July 17 by Lawrence police investigating a non-injury accident on July 13, in which a car was damaged by a vehicle that left the scene, according to police reports.

A 6-foot-7 small forward from Tift County High in Tifton, Ga., Greene signed to play at KU in November and has been practicing with the team this summer. He was ranked 47th among ESPN’s top 100 high school players in the 2013 recruiting class.

The accident was reported about 3:20 a.m. on July 13, in the 2000 block of Ousdahl Rd., where an unoccupied 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis was struck while parked in a driveway. The trunk of the car was significantly damaged, according to police. Witnesses could not immediately identify the vehicle that struck the Mercury, but police later determined that it was a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer belonging to a 25-year-old Lawrence man and driven by Greene.

Greene was cited for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage and failure to report an accident. He is scheduled to appear in Lawrence Municipal Court on Aug. 7.

Kansas University associate athletic director Jim Marchiony said athletics officials were aware of the incident but that there would be no publicly announced sanctions. “There certainly will be discipline, but it will be handled internally,” he said.
