Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to a structure fire at 6:50 p.m. Friday at 2206 Naismith Drive.

Doug Green, division chief of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical, said crews quickly extinguished the fire, which started on the outside of the house and progressed up the exterior wall. Although the house was occupied at the time of the fire, there were no injuries.

The fire was started by discarded smoking materials and was classified as unintentional. There was an estimated $5,000 in damages to the deck, exterior siding and the soffit of the house.
